Funeral services for Kenneth Newton "Newt" Freeland, age 17, of Bastrop will be 10 a.m. Tuesday May 25, 2004 at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop with the Rev. Bobby O'Fallon officiating. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 5 p.m. till 9 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop.

"Newt" passed away Saturday May 22, 2004 at the Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Clay Carroll Spikes and Newton Aubrey Freeland.

"Newt" was a student at Bastrop High School. He was an avid duck and deer hunter. He enjoyed basketball and mud riding on his four wheeler with his friends. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and hanging out with his buddies.

"Newt" is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Lori Spikes Freeland, his brother, Taylor Clay Freeland, and his sister, Heather Allene Freeland all of Bastrop, his maternal grandmother, Ina Sebren of Lake Village, Arkansas, and paternal grandmother, Alice "Topsy" Freeland, of Bastrop, and grandparents, George and Clara Belle Kinney of Bastrop, three uncles, Jeff Freeland of Bastrop, and Jeff Spikes and wife Val of Downsville, Louisiana, and Joey Kinney of Bastrop, an aunt, Carrie Green and husband Justin of Crossett, Arkansas, cousins, Jarred, Eric, Trent, Anthony, Samantha, and Sabrina and a host of relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jarred Freeland, Eric Freeland, Trent Freeland, Luke Hester, Clyde White, Sam Smith, Anthony Spikes, and Ryan Wilkerson.

The family request any planned memorials be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.
