Ansil "Sandy" Saunders, was born on September 23, 1918, to Veta Elvenia Rader and Jesse Thomas Saunders, in Joplin, MO.

He died on May 25, 2006, at the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, and was laid to rest on June 3, 2006 (noon) at the Oahu,Cemetery. Darrell Ames reports that Sandy, has no tombstone but is buried in the same Plot as Eleanor Shonk, his Mother-in-law.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1935 and was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He received many medals for his outstanding service to our country. Retiring after 23 years of service in the Navy with the rank of Chief Boson Mate, from CINCPAC Fleet.

He lived an extraordinary life. For 25 years he Managed the Pearl Harbor Auto Hobby Shop. "Sandy," was Chairman Emeritus and active member of the Board of Directors of AMMA, and Branch 46 of the Fleet Reserve Association. A life member of the American Legion and VFW. He held numerous offices and positions of leadership for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois Barbara Jean Shouk: His children, Sheila Mae, Orlena, Paula Contreras, Alby L. and Lydia De Bay; and 13 grandchildren.
