Service in his church and community was a passion of Terry's. He spent countless hours in such service. Much of this time was spent in developing talents and leadership qualities in youth and encouraging them to be active community contributors. Terry helped to bring Junior Achievement to the Tri-City area and served as a leader in The Boy Scouts of America. The Scouting program was very important to Terry. He not only earned his Eagle Scout Award as a youth, but earned a Silver Beaver Award (a distinguished service award) as an adult leader. He was also involved in the Hanford Chapter of the National Management Association (NMA), serving as president and vice president for multiple years. He received and distributed many awards and recognitions through this and other programs. Terry and Della loved serving in their church and filled many callings through the years. They loved attending the temple and were a great example to their family of devotion and faithful service.
Terry and Della loved being parents but relished their time as grandparents. Terry especially loved holding the babies and talking to them. He felt it was important to build a legacy for his 18 grandchildren. Terry often wrote poems or letters to his children and grandchildren so his family had something to remember of him. Terry's love of family extended to a yearning to search out his family lines and meet with extended family to learn more of his family history.
Terry and Della shared a passion for traveling. They went on many great adventures together. Terry was an outdoorsman and found great joy in the hobbies of camping, hunting and fishing. Poor weather and declining health did little to keep him from these adventures. He persisted in going even sometimes over protests from his protective children. He was a believer in doing things that brought him joy.
Terry was preceded in death by his dear wife, Della, both of his parents, brothers Dick and Jack Winward, and brother-in-law Marlin Green. He is survived by his five children, 18 grandchildren, sister Lueve and her husband, Boyd Whitby, sisters-in-law Pauline and Ruth Winward, and Jacqueline Green.
