Obituary:
UNDER THE WHEELS
Mr. John Hoffman, an aged citizen of our neighboring town of Petersburg, was killed by the cars, a short distance below that place, at an early hour on Friday morning. Mr. Hoffman had been in the employ of the P.R.R. Company for nearly 30 years and at the time he met his death, was engaged as a track hand. While walking on the south track, the Mail Express West, which was compelled to use that track on account of a wreck, struck him and killed him instantly, crushing his head terribly and otherwise mutilating his body. The deceased was about 65 years of age, and he leaves a wife and five children to mourn his tragic death.
