Mrs. Edna Lillian Abbott, age 90, born March 8, 1919 in Limestone, NC to parents, George and Betty Futrelle, quietly passed from the loving arms of her family to the sacred embrace of our Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, February 22, 2010 at the Freedom House of Air Force Village II in San Antonio, Texas.

She has gone to join her wonderful parents, George & Betty nee Batts Futrelle; her loving husband, Jesse; her sister Thelma; and brother, George in eternal peace.

Mrs. Abbott is survived by her eldest son, Jesse W. Abbott, III and his wife Karen; and their children, Jonathan and Kristen; as well as her youngest son, Rev Kerry M. Abbott, OFM Conv. Her surviving sisters are Ruth and Ruby.

Her legacy of faith, hope and love manifest by the many years of service offered to God and the Nation during their decades-long association with the United States Air Force and beyond, provides a profound example of Christian witness lived as a humble, strong, profound woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She will be deeply missed, for she was a tremendous Mom and friend, but that grief is lived in the certain knowledge that she is at peace and forever filled with joy.

While grateful to so many, the family is particularly humbled by the years of faithful, loving care provided by the people and staff of Air Force Village II, in particular while Mrs. Abbott was a resident at Liberty House and Freedom House.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2010, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

A private, family-only committal service will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Freedom House, Air Force Village II, 12455 Freedom Way San Antonio, Texas 78245.
