1976-2015
Mary Lauren Gerlach Bair, affectionately known as "Lolly," passed away at home on Thursday, August 27, from a three-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born on December 28, 1976, in Nashville, Tennessee, where she lived the first six years of her life. In 1983, Lolly and her family moved to Houston, Texas, where she graduated high school. Following that time, Lolly spent time in Henniker, New Hampshire, at New England College, and ultimately settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2001.
Lolly was known for living life to the fullest. Her lively spirit was felt by everyone she encountered. She never knew a stranger, welcoming people into her life and heart.
Despite the brevity of her life here on earth, Lolly lived each moment with a sense of adventure, enjoying every opportunity that came her way. Although her employment was varied, her love of fashion and gift of design landed her a career in retail. In spite of her struggle with cancer, Lolly was able to complete the International Teacher Training Program in Kundalini yoga. She was very eager to help others achieve health of body and soul. This spirit helped in her service as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe.
Lolly is survived by her husband, Louis Bair; daughter, Lily Grace Bair; step-son, Ian James Sanderson; father, Otto ("Bud") Gerlach; step-mother, Betty Gerlach; sister, Betsy Gerlach Jones and husband, Chip; nieces Ellie and Joshna Jones; step-sisters Margaret Ann Walker and Sarah Carruth; as well as numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles, and in-laws.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth ("Betsy") Bradford Gerlach; paternal grandparents, Otto and Lucille Gerlach; and maternal grandparents, Mark and Mary Rose Bradford.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe on Tuesday, September 1 at 11:00 am with visitation immediately following. In keeping with Lolly's wishes, festive attire is requested in this celebration of her colorful life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Gerard's House, a mission to provide grief support for children. Address: 3204 Mercantile Ct # C, Santa Fe, NM 87507.
