May 29, 1923 - July 19, 2006 Ballinger, Edwin Paul, 83, widower of Kathryn Mae Reynolds Ballinger, died Wednesday, July 19, at Kenton Healthcare.
Born in Cynthiana, he was a son of the late Earl and Sallie Platt Ballinger. Mr. Ballinger was a 1942 graduate of Henry Clay High School and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, 65th Signal Battalion, where he received the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Campaign Medal and the American Campaign Medal. He was a retired supervisor from GTE and a member of First Christian Church, where he served on the Board of Directors. He was also an honorary deputy sheriff in Fayette County. Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Paula and James Todd of Nicholasville; a granddaughter and her husband, Tara and Ross Cairns of Harrodsburg; two great grandsons, Creed and Croix Cairns; a brother and his wife, Earl and Marian Ballinger of Lexington; a sister, Marty Ballinger of Louisville; a nephew, Dan Reynolds of Lexington; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road in Lexington by Minister Ronnie Hupp, with burial following at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Walt Barbour, Ken Kelley, Dan Reynolds, Ross Cairns, Tommy Alcorn, Barry Newcombe, and James Todd. The honorary bearer was Earl Ballinger.
