Marilyn Adele Chmiel passed from this life on December 28, 2010 in Austin, TX. Born to Dr. Anthony and Mrs. Janina Maciejewski on August 18, 1930 in Newark, NJ, "Marni" as she was most commonly known spent most of her life in New Jersey. A graduate of Martland Medical Center School of Nursing, Newark, with a RN degree, Marni joined the Air Force to serve her country and satisfy her desire for travel and adventure. She served three years with the Air Force Nurse Corps from 1954-1957. Marni married Frank Jacob Chmiel of Elizabeth, NJ in 1958 and raised three children. She continued her education and earned a BA degree from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ. She was then employed by the State of NJ Health Department until her retirement in 1993. Marni enjoyed serving as a Eucharistic Minister, attending church and taking long walks with her loyal dog Tia.
She is predeceased by her parents Dr. Anthony and Mrs. Janina Maciejewski, sister Alice Harkewicz and brother Dr. Anthony Majeski. She is survived by her sister Basia Harkewicz of Orlando, FL, daughter Patricia Nolan of Brick, NJ, daughter Susan Chmiel of Austin, TX, son Timothy Chmiel of Brielle, NJ, grandchildren Andrew, Amanda and Alissa Nolan of Brick, NJ, several nieces, nephews and loyal friends, cherished caregivers and her beloved pet and companion Tia.
A funeral Mass and celebration of Marni's life will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 10:30am at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 685 Hooper Ave, Toms River, NJ with graveside service and reception immediately to follow.
