Betty A. McSweeney Aavang, 83 of Woodstock, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 in Woodstock.

Betty was born on June 2, 1932 in Madison Wisconsin to Wilbur and Irene (Carraher) Bakke. She married James McSweeney on September 6, 1958 in Madison Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1998. She was remarried to Victor Aavang on September 6, 2000 and he preceded her in death on February 10, 2006.

Betty and James moved to Woodstock from Hoffman Estates in 1991. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Woodstock. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1955. She enjoyed traveling and experiencing everything the world has to offer. She was a member of the Woodstock Garden Club and the Bull Valley Country Club. She volunteered at the Woodstock Food Pantry for many years. She enjoyed playing pinochle with friends. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and her faithful companion Mollie.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen (James Patrick Jr.) Scanlon, Eugene (Kathleen) McSweeney, and Keith (Jodessa) McSweeney; her grandchildren, Beatrice, Patrick, George, James, Daniel, Thomas, Colleen, Christopher, and Cecelia; her brother, Thomas (Donna) Bakke; her step children, David Aavang, Michael (Heidi) Aavang, Dale Aavang, and Phyllis Aavang; her step grandchildren, Christopher, Morgan, Alexander, Laura, Elizabeth, Nicole, and Nicholas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, James McSweeney; and her second husband, Victor Aavang.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 from 4-8pm at the Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave. in Woodstock. The visitation will continue Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 10am until the time of the funeral mass celebrated at 11am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Ave. in Woodstock. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock.
