John married Alice (McCartney) Hibbs on January 13, 1923, in Ottumwa, Iowa. His last name was spelled Munson on the marriage record in ancestry.com. Alice's last name was also spelled Munson in her death record and in her obituary.

John Monson, 82, died at 5:15 a.m. today at his home, 546 South Lillian street.
He was the son of Andrew and Mary Christina Monson and was born in Jefferson county March 16, 1860. He had resided in Ottumwa for the past 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; a sister, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Ottumwa; a niece, Mrs. John Horn, Ottumwa, and three nephews at Trenton.
The body was removed to the Johnson funeral chapel pending arrangements.
