Husband to Judy Schouten

Kenn Robert Schouten, 57, of Leon, died Friday, July 1, 2005 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Leon Christian Church. Burial will follow in Quito Cemetery, Leon.

He was born Dec. 5, 1947, in Eureka, the son of Harold (Red) and Elva Schouten of Piedmont. In Piedmont, Kenn's famly farmed and raised livestock along with his father's parents, Ted and Lillian Schouten. After a brief stay in Douglass, his family, which now included little brother, Donn and sister, Joy, moved to Latham, where he grew up. In Latham, Ken's family gained another member with the birth of baby sister, Wanda. His childhood included many adventures working with his grandparents on the farm in Piedmont and helping local ranchers with their cattle. He was also known well in town for the many pranks and foolishness he was involved in during his childhood and teenage years. If you ask the people in Latham about Kenn Schouten they will probably have a story about his loud Chevelle that he raced around town. His pranks followed him into adulthood when gained employment at Skelly Refinery in El Dorado.

He married his longtime sweetheart, Judy Kay Sharp, at the age of 21. They were united on May 2, 1969, in Latham. When he married Judy he got the whole clan, including Martin and Pam Sharp; Connie and Ronnie Shipman; MYrna and Tom (Jock) Leckliter; Sharon and Lee Schouten; Linda Loebeck, Robert and Cindy Sharp; Joan Karsting; and Richard and Alice Noakes.

In 1971 Kenn and Judy moved to Leon where Kenn spent 31 years working for local rancher Bob Patterson. He spent 37 years working at the refinery in El Dorado.

Kenn and Judy have two daughters, Tonya Renee, born Jan. 17, 1970 and Kimberly Kay, born June 23, 1971. Tonya and husband Herb Babb reside in Leon with children Jeremy and Justin Vancil and Natasha, Nikole and Samuel Babb. Kimberly and husband Tim McCune reside in Douglass with children Conner an Molly.

Memorials in his memory for the American Heart Association, National Public Radio or the National Rifle Association may be left at Carlson Funeral Home who is assisting the family with the arrangements. (El Dorado Times, Tuesday, July 5, 2005)
