Thomas Frank Sykes moved to Villa Rica from Smithville, Ga. in 1866. His father was killed in the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia in 1864. Thomas and Virginia Green were married about 1874. In 1878 they moved to Texas in a covered wagon. After 2 years of crop failures, they returned to Villa Rica by train. They had three children; Walter C. Sykes, Annie Belle Sykes, whom married James Henry Pope. Lois Sykes. Thomas Frank Sykes was a prominent farmer, a very active member of Pleasant Grove Church, served for several years as Worshipful Master of the Villa Rica Masonic Lodge, and also served a term as Postmaster of Villa Rica.
