Mrs. Joseph Barton Had Lived In This County Almost 75 Years
Mrs. Joseph Barton Sr. after an illness of only two weeks died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Ed Sirrine of the Fourth Ward. Death came to Mrs. Barton Friday morning Feb. 13 caused by complications of diseases subject to old age.
Lucinda Jane Whitman was born March 24, 1845 near Smith's Crossing and has lived all her life in Midland County. She is survived by two sons Floyd of Saginaw, Joseph of Midland and six daughters, Julia Lagoo of Cadillac, Maude Frost of Pennsylvania, Ella McBerlogg of Newberry Wisconsin, Rose Swarthout of Flint, Kate Hickerson and Florence Sirrine of Midland She also leaves a sister Mrs. Mary Higgins of this city, two half sisters Mrs. Alice McDonald of Midland, Mrs. Laura Cooper of Detroit and five brothers, Frank, James, John, Dan, and William Whitman.
The funeral was held at the Sirrine home February 15 Rev. P.O. Keicher of the Episcopal Church officiating. Internment was in Homer Cemetary,
All the children were present at the funeral except Mrs. Frost of Pennsylvania and Mrs. Berlogg of Wisconsin who were unable to get here.
Mrs. Barton was the second white child born in Midland County. She had thirty grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
