Havre Man Killed in Railroad Yards
Havre, Oct. 1--Edmond Burke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Burke, was accidentally killed in the yards of the Great Northern railway. He was pinned between a boxcar and the guides on the oil tank on a locomotive and was crushed in the stomach and hips. Burke was carried to the roundhouse and from there was taken to the hospital but he died before a thorough examination could be made. He never regained consciousness and died shortly before 12 o'clock.
He was caught in such a manner as to roll his body around in the end of the boxcar several times. Burke was riding on the pilot of the engine when he noticed the boxcar standing on the track near the intersection of a switch. He told his companion, who was driving the locomotive, that there was not clearance enough for the engine to pass, then jumped from his stand and ran between the engine and the empty car.
His companion made an attempt to stop the engine, but did not succeed in doing so until the engine had passed the car by several yards.
Burke's father was going east on No. 28, which he pulls regularly as an engineer, when he was notified of the accident and returned to Havre Tuesday evening on No. 3.
