According to the census, Elizabeth was the only person that could read and write, but unfortunately she passed away, and nothing is given about her in the Carter Family Bible. It is possible that she may have entered the first accounts of family genealogy before she passed away, the Bible page that we have are just two pages that pertain to Birth, Marriages and Death information. What ever happen to the rest of the Bible is unknown. Later Nancy R. Carter, daughter to James N. Carter may have entered the updates or one of her Aunts.
