Billings Gazette obit:
Agnes Maude (Allison) Cowger died peacefully at the Willows Assisted Living in Red Lodge on Aug. 14, 2015, with dear friend Maureen Ellis at her bedside. Agnes was born June 7, 1933, to Rose (Skupa) and James Archibald Allison. She was born at the family home in Red Lodge and joined sisters Lenore and Rosemarie (Cookie) and brother James (Jim). Tragedy struck the family in February of 1943 when her father lost his life in the Smith Mine Disaster.

Agnes graduated from Red Lodge High School in 1951. She married Lloyd Nicholls (Nick) Cowger on June 1, 1951, and moved to his family’s ranch west of Red Lodge. In 1952, daughter Malinda Rose (Lindy) was welcomed to the family and in 1955 their second daughter Susan Marie (Susy) was born.

Agnes was thought by many to be one of the best cooks in the county and was especially gifted at making sweets. She was known for her delicious popcorn balls that she would make every Halloween and delighted in gifting them as a treat to friends and neighbors, young and old. She loved to grow flowers, and every year had a big vegetable garden. Agnes loved watching birds and loved taking long walks on the ranch with her beloved Labs. She was a member of the Red Lodge Hiking Club for several years and developed many long and lasting friendships.

Agnes worked with Nick on the ranch and in the summers helped with the haying by running a buck rake. In later years, as her health declined, Agnes found new interests to keep her busy. Friend Karen Hergenrider introduced her to the world of computers and this enabled her to pursue her passion creating a detailed history of the John Henry Cemetery.

Agnes is survived by her husband of 64 years, Nick, of Red Lodge. Also surviving are daughters Lindy Cowger of Red Lodge, and Susy (Kerry) Kegel of Ontario, Ore., and nieces Patti Kilwine and Mary Cowger and nephew Bill Beyl . In addition, she is survived by special friends/her “extended family,” Alvin and Maureen Ellis of Red Lodge and their children, Rusty Ellis, Scott Ellis, Gary Ellis and Bridgett Chartier, and their children.

Agnes was proceeded in death by her mother, father, sisters and brother.
