John Jay Brumfield, 79, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015. He was born on March 19, 1936 in Magnolia, MS. He was a resident of Pascagoula for many years, but retired to Lucedale where he made his home for the last 21 years. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding where he worked in Fabrication and Layout for 43 years. He started his career in the apprenticeship program where he received an award for Apprentice of the Year for his outstanding performance. He is a former member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Pascagoula and a current member of Barton Baptist Church in Lucedale.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Ina May Brumfield; brother, Joseph Brumfield; sisters, Ruth Beard and Winnie Parker; in-laws, Charlie and Audell Coon; brother-in-law, Shorty Beyers, Thomas E. Ladnier, Felder Beard and Billy Coon; and sister-in-law, Viola Thornhill.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Coon Brumfield; children, Donna (Mike) Lollar, John Charles (Diana) Brumfield and Sandra (Bobby) Goff; grandchildren, Leslie Amanda Goff, Madeline Summer Jones and his "buddy" Landon Vaughan Goff; sisiters, Faye (Alton) Martin and Mickey (James) Jenkins; and his best friend since childhood, Ralph Walters.

He loved spending time with his family. He also loved to white perch fish and gardening in his garden. He especially loved sharing his vegetables with everyone. He loved to travel and visit his birthplace "Uphome" Tylertown, MS and reminisce of picking cotton and going to the picture show for a dime. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest each and every day. He loved his "grand dogs" George Presley, Lexi and FiFi. He loved the Lord with all of his heart. He will be remembered for his love of everyone and for always having a smile on his face.

His family would like to thank Bro. Jerry Reed, Bro. Brad Howard, Chaplain Les Pierce, Camilia Home Health of Lucedale, Felica Carr, Southern Care Hospice, Dr. Michael Rhiner, Dr. Nicole Angel and Dr. Joel Brunt for their care and compassion during John's illness.
