Nora Lee Brown McMichael, 89, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at her home.

She was born March 10, 1923, the daughter of the late Fred Brown and Mary Sharp Brown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John G. McMichael; a sister, Bonnie Beasley, and three brothers, Wilbur, James and Jesse Brown.

She is survived by her two children, Betty Heinemann and husband Carl of Chattanooga, Tenn. and John L. McMichael (Jimmie) of Harrogate, Tenn.; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church and was past president of the church's Women's Missionary Union. McMichael will be remembered for being an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and for the beautiful hand-sewn quilts she made for family and friends. She bravely battled cancer for three and one half years and was lovingly cared for by family members, friends, neighbors, Hospice of the Bluegrass, and fellow members of Sand Spring Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 18 at 11 a.m. at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial followed in Sand Spring Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Johnny, Danny, and Davis McMichael, Larry and Scott Brown, and Carl Heinemann.
