Phyllis Wernette, 73, of Weidman went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 20, 2012 after a very courageous battle with cancer. Phyllis was born in Saginaw, MI to Donald and Birdie Abbott, they moved to Weidman where Phyllis grew up and met her husband.
Phyllis was married for 56 years to her loving husband, Daniel Wernette who survives her.
They had 5 children, Paul (Jennie) Wernette of Lafargeville, NY, Margaret Edwards of Weidman, Jeff (Rita) Wernette of Lake, Julie (Jim) Roche of White Lake, Connie Wernette of Oregon and Connie's son, Andy Cannon (Samantha) of Spring Lake. Julie and Connie preceded Phyllis in death. Phyllis is survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Mitchell (Carol) Abbott of Weidman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Birdie Abbott and a brother Wayne Abbott of Weidman. Phyllis is also survived by Wayne's wife, Linda Abbott.
Phyllis was retired from Mid-Michigan Industries in Clare, MI. She was known for her gorgeous quilts that she so lovingly made and she loved camping, fishing, hiking and the Wheatland Bluegrass Festival. She was also a proud member of the Country Quilters and Red Hats. Most of all she loved her family very deeply.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Beal City with Father Patrick Janowiak celebrant. There will be a visitation with the family on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City. The family will also meet with friends on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 before Mass.
There will be a luncheon served following the service at the K.C. Hall in Beal City.
The family requests that those wishing please consider a donation in Phyllis's name to Woodland Hospice House, Mt. Pleasant. Envelopes will be available at the church.
The family has entrusted arrangements to Maier Family Funeral Home of Weidman.
