About 1976 my brother found this headstone next to a dumpster. The police told him it was his problem to locate who it belonged to. In the subsequent nearly 40 years, I have tried repeatedly to locate Leatha and R H Hill based on the information inscribed on the stone. But with no luck until Sept 2015, when I found them in the 1910 census. Many days of verification were required. The key evidence was tracing the only other Hill in the cemetery, Monroe Hill. He turned out to have lived in Linn Flat and raised his family there. And he is the father of Richmond, Leatha's father. In the 1880 census in Linn Flat, you can see them together. I am supposing that her father's name is Richmond. In the census it is Richman in 1880. In 1900 and 1910 it is Rich and Richard. His wedding gives Richmond.

Leatha died at 17, just a few days before her father. I think because the deaths were so close they commissioned a stone with both their names.

If you know anything about the descendants of this family, contact me as I have pieced together a family tree. James Monroe's family is fairly large, so there should be other descendants. The photo is my brother's back yard. We are trying to locate people responsible for the cemetery so we can return it.
