Alfred L Morgan was born June 1, 1895 in Wyoming Co WV to William "Floyd" Morgan and Minta Canada Morgan. Alfred was a coal miner and is shown on the census in 1920 and 1930 as a coal miner in Logan County, WV making it extremely likely that he was one of 10,000 miners involved in the Battle of Blair Mountain- the largest labor uprising in the history of the United States even to this day. The southern coal miners were attempting to unionize and met with strong resistance from the coal companies, even to the point of the murder of Sid Hatfield, the Matewan, WV sheriff who sympathized with the miners- the event which is said to have sparked the uprising.

Alfred married Josie Morgan on June 4, 1916 in Wyoming CO WV and had two daughters; Bessie and Evie. Josie died in 1924. He then married Tiny Gibson on February 8, 1925 in Logan Co., adding another daughter, Pearl to his family. They had 11 more children; Donald, Dixon, Chester, Kenneth, Dean, Josie, Sharon, Shirley, Gary, Chuck, and Blanche. Dixon and Blanche died in childhood.

They lived in Kistler WV, a small coal mining town along the Buffalo Creek. Alfred was a coal miner during his working years, and Tiny kept house. During the Buffalo Creek Flood Disaster on February 26, 1972, the flood waters reached their home, but did not destroy it.

He died July 1, 1981 in Logan Co. WV. He and his wife, Tiny are buried in Highland Memory Gardens in Logan County, WV.
