Edward was born in Dundee, Scotland, and lived at 29 North Wellington St. He was the seventh son of the seventh son and the youngest of 12 children born to Charles MackIntosh/McIntosh (original spellings) and Jessie Mitchell (both buried in the Bloomfield Cemetery, NJ).
Edwards siblings were: Charles, William, James, John (died as an infant), David, George, Jessie, Mary, Ann (died as an infant), Helen (married to John Angotti), and Elizabeth (married to John VanBrunt).
From 1918 to 1919, Edward attended the Morgan Academy which was a technical institute in Dundee. In 1919 he went to Dundee Technical College where he was trained as an iron turner. From March 1918 to May 1920, he worked for Robertson & Orchor Limited as an apprentice turner.
Edward "Americanized" his last name when he immigrated to the United States in 1920 at the age of 18. He sailed with his sister in law Jeannie, who was meeting her husband George (Edward's brother) in America, on the SS Kaiserin Auguste Victoria out of Liverpool, England arriving in New York on June 5, 1920. He processed through Ellis Island and was delayed there for 10 days due to bloodshot eyes. He had been sick the entire journey.
After settling in Newark, NJ, Edward attended the Newark College for Engineering (after taking a general school aptitude test at Barringer High School) where he earned his degree in engineering. He paid for his education and a small, one room boarding house by cleaning out furnaces at night. He worked for Public Service Power and Light for 45 years until his retirement.
Edward was married to Myrtle Alida Eggleston on Oct 21, 1933. They had two children: Barbara Kathryn and Bruce Edward. The marriage ended in divorce. Edward was married a second time to Veronica Puppo on Memorial Day weekend, May 29, 1948.
They lived together in on 2 Marlo Dr., Livingston, NJ (a brand new house) until retirement to 3210 French Ave., Lake Worth Florida in the fall of 1964. They had owned the French Avenue house for several years, renting out until they were able to retire to Florida.
Edward and Veronica enjoyed retired life in their small house in Lake Worth. Edward occasionally went deep sea fishing while Veronica spent time on the golf course. They both enjoyed visits from their New Jersey family…children and grand-children. Edward prided himself in keeping the house and their car, a white Oldsmobile, in perfect condition.
Edward died on Nov 10, 1976 of complications due to heart disease at the hospital in Lake Worth with Veronica at his side. He was cremated and his ashes were spread in the Atlantic off the coast of Florida by his son Bruce.
