Before her marriage Mary Evelyn was a teacher in the public schools. She had a great interest in art and literature and wrote for the press. For 9 years she was lecturer of the Grange, of the County Grange for 4 years, and was Master of the Grange for two years. She belonged to the Methodist Church and was an active worker until ill health compelled her to remain at home.
