May 23, 1929 – July 28, 2014

Resident of Saratoga

Stan Carroll, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Saratoga on Monday, July 28th, after a lengthy illness.

Born and raised in Long Beach, Stan had resided in Saratoga for the past 46 years.

Stan is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carolee (nee Clark), daughters Robin (Kurt) Stoffers of Saratoga, Kelly (Dwayne) Orender of Clovis, and Stacy (Mike) Badgis of San Jose, grandchildren Kyle Stoffers, Ryan Stoffers, Tyler (Kelly) Orender, Bradley (Jessica) Orender, Karlie Orender, Jordan Orender, and Trent Badgis, and great-granddaughter Kayden Orender. Stan is also survived by his brother Joe (Trudy) Carroll of Bend, Oregon and many nieces and nephews.

Stan graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School, where he played football, and from Long Beach City College. Stan served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict.

In 1967, Stan, Carolee, and the three daughters moved north to open the first Marie Callender's Restaurant in Northern California in San Jose on Winchester Boulevard. The following year, Stan and Carolee opened a second Marie Callender's on El Camino Real in Los Altos. Stan and Carolee owned and operated the two restaurants for over 30 years until Stan's retirement in 2000.

Stan was also active in the business community in San Jose as a real estate investor and as a founder and Director of Pacific Valley Bank for over 15 years before it was ultimately sold to Comerica Bank.

An avid athlete, Stan enjoyed water skiing, sailing his Hobee Cat at his second home at Lake Wildwood near Grass Valley and playing racquetball with his buddies three times a week until he was 75. Stan and Carolee loved to travel and on several occasions, they brought along their daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren on European cruises.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday, August 4th at 10am at the Alameda Family Funeral and Cremation, 12341 Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd, Saratoga.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any donations be made to the Hospice of the Valley at 4850 Union Avenue in San Jose or any charity of your choice.
