James was born February 8, 1930 the son of James W. and Margaret E. (Core) Adams in Nunn, Colorado.
He was reared and educated in Briggsdale and Grover, Colorado. He started farming in 1945 to 1951 when he enlisted into the United States Army on August 2, 1951. He was in basic training from August 1951 to September 1952. He served with the 23rd Infantry. While serving in the Army he served as a Medic as an ambulance driver for fourteen months in Korea. He then returned to Colorado to serve in the reserve to finish his eight years.
He was married to Ellen Shipp on March 28, 1960, and they lived in Denver, Briggsdale, Grover, and Bushnell, Nebraska from 1961 to 1965 before moving to Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. In 1974 they moved to Wheatland.
James worked on farms all of his life. He also worked for Platte County Road and Bridge operating a road grader. James spent his retirement years southwest of Wheatland. Some of his hobbies included gardening, feeding the birds and cats.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Adams of Wheatland; children, Martha (Garry) Mahon of Billings, Montana, Melody (Rick) Moody of Wheatland, Bill (Joyce) Adams of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Greg Adams (Julie) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings.
