Just HEARTBREAKING!!!

Dennis was a 7 year veteran of Lansing Fire Dept. He died of injuries received from a deliberate hit and run while he was raising money for Muscular Dystrophy.

He leaves behind his wife and unborn child.

Mayor Bernero released the following statement about Dennis Rodeman's death:

“On behalf of the Lansing Fire Department and the City of Lansing, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Fire Fighter Dennis Rodeman, a seven-year veteran of LFD, who was struck this afternoon by a hit-and-run driver in a senseless, unthinkable tragedy that has left all of us in a state of shock. We join the men and women of Lansing Fire and all citizens of Lansing in expressing our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues for this heartbreaking loss.

While his extraordinary life story will be told in the days ahead, we know that Fire Fighter Rodeman was also a veteran of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion of the 24th Marine Regiment, United States Marine Corps. He served his country with great pride, bravery and ability, having survived a tour of duty in Fallujah, Iraq, one of the most dangerous places in the world. It is beyond comprehension that this American hero lost his life on the streets of Lansing while collecting charitable contributions for children afflicted by muscular dystrophy.

May the memory of Lansing Fire Fighter and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Dennis Rodeman – a hero twice over – be forever etched in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him.”

Dennis Eber Rodeman, 35 of Owosso, Michigan passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015. He was born January 27, 1980 in Charlotte, Michigan to Max Dennis and Tonya Jean (Hester) Rodeman. Dennis was a distinguished Veteran, serving with the United States Marine Corps. He was a well respected and dedicated Firefighter and EMT. He began his career as a volunteer Firefighter with the Vermontville Fire Department and for the last 7 years has dedicated his service to the City of Lansing Fire Department. Dennis had a passion for the outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing or shooting his rifles. On Saturdays starting in late August he could be found sitting on the couch (or in a brown chair) watching his favorite college football team, the Michigan Wolverines. Dennis had a great sense of humor, often with a touch of sarcasm. He always knew how to make someone laugh and smile; he truly could light up a room. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, no matter what the situation. But above all, Dennis was a devoted and noble family man and friend, with a profound love for children. He was so excited and thrilled to become a new father. He cherished his family, especially his new wife Kate, and his many friends. He will be dearly missed by so many.

He was preceded in death by his step-grandfather, Emil "Blackie" Haebert; grandfather Gustavius Rodeman; grandmother, Edith Dolby, uncle Stanley Vansplintern; and cousin, Trent Craven. Surviving to cherish his memory are his parents; wife Katherine (Demesa) Rodeman; in laws, Camilo, Bernadette and Kamille Demesa; sisters, Kimberly Lawhead and Kelly (Danny) Flory; and his favorite pet dogs, Oliver, Emma and Weasel.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Jack Breslin Student Event Center, East Lansing, Michigan where guests will be welcomed beginning at 8:45am. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI.
