Sarah Belle Allen was born in Vinegar Hill township, Jo Daviess County, on June 30, 1872, the daughter of Alexander and Sarah (Patterson) Allen. She received her education in the rural schools and resided on the farm with her parents until her marriage. On July 23, 1891, she was united in marriage at Dubuque, Iowa, to Ernest Schleicher of Galena. Following her marriage, she lived in Galena the rest of her life. Mrs. Schleicher was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the home department of the church. She was a member of the Galena Rebekah Lodge No. 346 and was the last surviving member of the Woodmen of the World Circle.
Mrs. Schleicher is survived by two daughters, two sons, two sisters, and one brother: Mrs. Leona Marsden of Galena Mrs. Harry (Lucille) Simmons of Galena John E. Schleicher of Galena Alec Schleicher of Galena Mrs. Jerry (Mildred) Macklin of Davenport, Iowa Mrs. Charles (Emma) Kurz of Dubuque, Iowa Mr. Charles Allen of Dubuque, Iowa Plus twenty-two grandchildren fifteen great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, (who passed away June 27, 1939); her parents, an infant daughter, and a son-in-law, Burt Marsden of Galena. Also preceding her in death were four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Thomas (Jenny) Copeland; Mrs. Charles (Eliza) Kurz; Mrs. John (Hattie) Fiege; Mrs. Peter (Sophie) Specht; Mr. John Allen; Mr. Alexander Allen.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Nash Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Hodgson, minister of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be made in Greenwood Cemetary, Galena. Friends may call at the Nash Funeral Chapel.
