POLLARD, Ward: Ward Kerby Pollard, age 79, of Tucker, GA, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley J. Busk Pollard, sister, ..., 3 sons, ..., 7 grandchildren, ..., three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and 21 nieces and nephews.

Born in New London, CT, he was the son of Annapolis-graduate Captain Leslie Kenney Pollard and Isabelle Carolyn Ward. During his four years at Shattuck School in Faribault Minnesota he was in Jr. ROTC, a competitive swimmer and all-around athlete. Inspired by his father's family in Salmon Idaho, who supplied the region with lumber, coal, quarried stone and brick and exported various mineral ores, he completed a BS in Mining and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Wisconsin in 1956. He served as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he began a lifelong parallel volunteer career with the Boy Scouts of America and as a Sunday School teacher and Methodist Youth Fellowship leader. His wide-ranging civilian career included many years with the Sinclair Oil and Gas Co. and the US Gypsum Co. An avid rose gardener like his father, he loved swimming, birding, reading, studying history, playing chess, following the Wisconsin Badgers and his beloved grandchildren's sports teams.

A memorial service celebrating Ward's life will be held 2:00 o'clock, Saturday, March 31, 2012, at his home church of Tucker First United Methodist Church, 5095 LaVista Road, Tucker, Ga, 30084. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial efforts on his behalf with the volunteer organizations of one's choice. A favorite tradition was ringing bells for the Salvation Army during the Christmas season. He was a lifelong Boy Scout, finding myriad ways of "doing a good turn daily," unheralded good deeds for his neighbors, as exemplified by our Lord's parable of the Good Samaritan. Messages of condolence may be left on www.floralhillsfuneral.com. Arrangements by Floral Hills Funeral Home, Tucker, GA..
