Eugene Ignatius Oster, 82, died July 15, 1999, at Eastern Plumas District Hospital in Portola.

A native of Kansas City, Kans., he was born April 27, 1917. Prior to moving to Portola in 1978 he lived in Burbank.

Oster was a saw filer for 40 years, working to Valley Saw Service. He attended high school in Los Angeles and was in the U.S. Army 1945-46. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Portola.
Oster wasa preceded in death by his brother Frederick Oster.
He is survived by his wife, Maurine of Portola; daughters, Mary Cassano of Portola and Norma Canrell of Redding; son, John of Eugene, Ore.; sisters, Agnes Hearns of Arizona and Thelma Hill of South Carolina; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and cousin Cedric Seaman of Portola.

A memorial mass will be held Friday, July 23, 10 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Portola.
