Melissa (Mitzi) Jean Brickey, 52, of Botetourt County, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her parents, Bobby and Sally Brickey; son, Cory Dogan and daughter-in-law, Sarah; brothers, Brian and Scotty Brickey; sister, Jennifer Brickey; grandchildren, Aubrey and Tanner Dogan; special friends, Donna Nester, Debbie Cooper, and Melinda Landes; her dog, Maggie; and many other relatives and friends.
Mitzi graduated from Lord Botetourt High School and was a member of Harvest Ministries Church. She gave to many charities including the missions at her church, the free clinic, and buying presents for the Christmas tree angels. She loved spending time at the beach and camping with friends and family. She found joy in planning and having celebrations for those she knew and loved.
Her family would like to thank all those that cared for her at the Carrington Place, Blue Ridge Cancer Center, and Good Samaritan Hospice; and a special thank you to Dr. Buck, Dr. Mallidi, and the cheerfulness of “Mr. Happy” as he was named by Mitzi.
Family will be receiving friends at Oakey’s East Chapel, 5188 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke from 10 to 11 AM, Saturday, September 19, 2015. Mitzi’s Memorial Service will be held in Oakey’s Chapel at 11 AM following visitation with Pastor J. Milton Atkins officiating. Continued fellowship celebrating her life will follow at Harvest Ministries, 909 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Roanoke Va.
