Ellen Geraldine"Geard" Hatley,69,155 Rye Branch Road,Butler,went to be with God on Monday,May 14,2007,following a lengthy illness.
A native of Carter County,she was born October 26,1937, to the late Wiley t. and Faye Isaacs Hatley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, J.D. Hatley and Tom Hatley,two brothers-in-law, Barton Garland and Joe Stanton,and a sister-in-law, Ruth Hatley.
"Geard" loved bluegrass music,dancing and taking care of her family.She was an angel and sweet to everyone.
"Geard" is survived by by her partner in life, Eugene"Gene" Blevins; two sisters,Thelma Stanton and Erlene"dean" Garland,both of Butler; three brothers,Dewey Hatley and his wife Helen Hatley,Dave and his wife Maybell Hatley and Jesse Carl"Bud",all of Butler, and Bud's fiancee, Betty Jonson,Mountain City; and large number of nieces,nephews and cousins. The following special friends also survive, Shirley Potter,Betty Hiatt, Liddie Lewis and Helen Coffey.
Graveside services for Ellen Geraldine"Geard" Hatley, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday,May 17(2007) in the Hatley Cemetery, Butler, with Pastor Charles Cable and Mike Taylor,minister,officiating. Music will be provided by the Burl Mast Band. Active pallbearers will be Joseph Stanton,Wesley Garland,Dennis Stanton,Mike Stanton,Vern Stanton,Ernie Potter,Carl Hatley,Kevin Hatley,Dewey Thomas Hatley,Jr., Terry Stanton,Harold Garland,Adam Stanton and Daryl Stanton.Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:15 p.m. Thursday(May 17,2007). The family will recieve friends at the residence,155 Rye Branch Road Butler,after 3 p.m. Wednesday,May 16(2007).
