Evelyn Kowalski, 70, of Ord died June 26, 1997 at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Funeral services were held July 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ord Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Lonny Carpenter officiated. Milton Hill was the organist and vocalists were Rev. Lonny Carpenter and Corrine Hawley.
Poem readers were Diana Hill and Corrine Hawley. Pallbearers were Steve Hawley, Rod O'Neel, Marty Seamann, Ron Rice, Gary Bogus and Mervin Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Terry O'Neel, Mike Moeller, Ed Brownell, John Wray, Bill Roth, Tim Griebel, James Psota and Gale Marsh.
Burial was in the Ord City Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Ord Assembly of God Church.
Evelyn G. Kowalski was born to Walter B. and Daisy (Howard) Paddock on July 15, 1926 in Sherman County, Neb., near the Davis Creek area. In 1932 she moved to Ord with her mother where she attended the Ord Public Schools. In 1942 she lived in San Francisco, Calif. where she worked as a telephone operator during World War II. She moved from California in 1945 and lived in New York City and Ord, before moving back to California and later Illinois. In 1949, she returned to Nebraska where she lived in Ord and spent most of her life.
She is survived by one son, Jess Wilcox Jr.,of Burwell; four daugh­ters, Cheryl Moran of Hastings, Diane Fischer of Kearney, Penny (Mrs. Norm) Lenstrom of Greeley, Colo. and Kimberly (Mrs. Bob) Smith of Broken Bow; one brother, Owen Paddock of Moorcroft, Wyo.; 13 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael; nine brothers; one sister and one grandchild.
