Sonya graduated from Duluth Central High School. She worked at the Corner Cupboard, then at Bridgeman's. For several years she enjoyed working as a dental assistant for Dr. Lyonel Duff. On July 16, 1949, Sonya married John W. Morris, Jr. Following her marriage she worked as a bookkeeper for Lester Park Greenhouse.
Sonya was a member of Lakeside Bethany Lutheran Church until her marriage to John, when she joined Trinity Lutheran Church. Over the years she taught Sunday school, served in the nursery, and belonged to the Fellowship Club and Trinity Travelers where she made many lifelong friends.
Sonya traveled throughout her life, camping for many years before becoming a "snowbird" in Texas and Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Carl and sister-in-law Gertie, her sister-in-law Virginia Eastvold, and most recently by John, her life-long friend and husband of 62 years.
Sonya is survived by her daughters: Darlene and Joanne; brother, Harold (Helen) Salminen; brothers-in-law: Willard Morris, Donald Morris and Cliff Eastvold; sisters-in-law: Betty and Marilyn Morris; cousin Alvera Pierson; many cherished nieces and nephews; and her constant companion "Shadow" who meant so much to her.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
