Pilot Officer 85014 Nigel Alers-Hankey Royal Air Force 82nd Squadron was the son of Eric Norman Alers-Hankey of Bexley, Kent who served with the 30th Regiment British Columbia Horse and the 103rd Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force. Nigel's mother was Clara Frances Latitia Alers-Hankey nee Phillips.

In July 1938 Nigel married Annie Lilian Hannaford Alexander in Staines, Middlesex. They had one son Graham 1939 - 1949.

In 1939/1940 Nigel enlisted at Uxbridge as a Class F Reservist, Royal Air Force service number 904224.

Nigel died in active service aged 29 whilst stationed at RAF Malta when his Blenheim aircraft which took off from Malta crashed into the sea. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

Nigel was entitled to be awarded the British WW2 medals and All Crew Europe Star medal.

Commemorated in perpetuity by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
