Hubbard Dunster's great grandfather was Reverend Henry Dunster V, who emigrated from England to Boston, Massachusetts in 1640. On August 27, 1640 Reverend Henry Dunster was named Harvard's first President and for many years Rev. Dunster alone taught Harvard's entire curriculum. The charter that Henry Dunster established still governs Harvard today.
Hubbard Dunster settled on the family farm in Westminster. In 1769 he married Ruth Bailey. Together they had 6 children.

His sister Ruhamah married his wife's brother Dudley.
