Mable Akins,79, Dies; Funeral Here Wednesday
Mrs. Mable Akins, 79, of Grand Isle, La., died at 4:30 p. m. Sunday at Hickory Grove Manor nursing home, where she had resided for the past year and a half. She was the mother of Mrs Gerald Metcalf of Ml. Vernon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a. m. at Myers Chapel. Rev. H. J. Wilson will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel, where friends may call after 4:00 p. m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Akins was born December 23,1887 at St. Genevieve, Mo., the daughter of H. L. and Molly (Snowdell) Kendrick. On September 30, 1912 she was married to John Robert Akins, who survives.
Mrs. Akins was a member of the Carrolton Avenue Methodist church at New Orleans, La. She was past Worthy Matron of Me- tiare Chapter No. 69, Order of Eastern Star, in New Orleans.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Metcalf of Mt. Vernon; one son, Leslie C. Akins of Baton Rouge. La.; three sisters, Mrs. Lula Drake of Riverside, Calif., Mrs. M. A. Dalton of Flushmg, Mich., and Mrs. William L. Meyer of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one grandchild and one great grandchild.
