Ginna Ann Diehl, 56, of 2401 E. Third St. was pushing a bicycle west along 14th Street between Charles Boulevard and Glen Arthur Avenue when she suddenly turned into the lane of traffic and was hit by a car that was about to pass her, according to a collision report from the Greenville Police Department.

Diehl was pushing the bicycle erratically in the lane near the curb, according to what a witness told police. She suddenly turned to her left and into the path of a car driven by Frank Martin III of Ayden, who was about to pass her in the inside lane, the report said.

The collision occurred near the Harris Teeter on Charles Boulevard about 8:40 p.m.

Diehl was transported to Vidant Medical Center with serious injuries and died on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m., according to the Greenville police.

No charges will be filed, according to Kristen Hunter, spokeswoman for the Greenville Police Department.

Diehl attended St. James United Methodist Church and recently began singing in its Chancel Choir.

“She was a really, really energetic person and had a bubbly personality,” Jeffrey Ward, who leads the choir at St. James, said. “She had some health issues, but she never let that stand in her way. It didn’t seem to dampen her spirits.”

The Scullery also recently had a showing of drawings by Diehl, according to its Facebook page.
