Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Grace Fellowship at South Park with Dr. John Marks officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. The family will see friends from 1:00 to 1:45 on Wednesday at Grace Fellowship.
Mrs. Kernodle was born on February 15, 1929, in Rockingham County to the late Hugh William Southard and Lillie Rakes Southard. She loved children and was always ready to welcome visitors into her home. Myrtle was a faithful and devoted member of Grace Fellowship, formerly First Congregational Christian Church. She loved her Sunday school class, Women's Fellowship and Senior Bible Study. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Brooks Kernodle, sons, Barry Clint Southard and Michael Hunter Kernodle, sister, Mary Jane Southard and brothers, John, Leonard and Albert Southard. Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Kernodle Deal and husband Bruce of Archdale; daughter-in-law, Milly Southard of Pelham; grandchildren, Tina Southard Sebastian, Michael, Eric and Jesse Kernodle, Greg and Brad Underwood, and Reid and Brooks Deal; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Southard and wife Mary, Bill Southard and wife Brenda and Joe Southard and wife JoAnne; sister, Donna Boyd and husband Gary; and many special nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
