George D. Michie, resident of Jackson since 1920, died at 2 a.m. today in the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after an illness of some three months. He was born in McNairy County at Michie, son of the late Dew and Minerva McKenzie Michie. For more than 50 years he had been engaged in the bedding business, and had been associated with the Dixie Bedding Co. for 40 years as sale representative. Throughout West Tennessee he was known as "the Mattress Man." He was a member of the West Jackson Baptist Church, and the J. W. Barnett Sunday School Class." On Dec. 30, 1928 he was married to the former Miss Lidie Turner. He is survived by his, widow, one son, George Robert Michie of Bloomington, Ind., one brother, Fred Michie of Jackson, a sister, Mrs. Luke Casey of Memphis, and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Mrs. Josephine Graves died in 1955. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Lanier Funeral Home with Dr. David Q. Byrd, Rev. Paul Williams, and Dr. Robert Shelton officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Gardens.
