Harry E. Hanks, 93, of Everett, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 24th, 2015.

He was born Wednesday, February 8th, 1922 at his family home in Clearville, a son of the late William C. Hanks and Mary E. (Beatty) Hanks.

On January 10th, 1946, at the United Methodist Church in Huntingdon, he married Dorothy G. (Gump) Hanks who passed away on June 28th, 2012. He is survived by their son Thomas L. Hanks and wife Patricia A. (Garrigan) Hanks of Chambersburg, Four grandsons: Brian Hanks and wife Nicola; David Hanks and wife Lura; Cameron Hibshman and Branden Hibshman and wife, Nicole, Six great-grandchildren: Sarah, Nathan, Amber, Natalie, Weston and Evan, and a sister in law, Phyllis Hanks of Huntingdon.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in passing away by an infant sister and three brothers, Clarence Hanks, Donald Hanks and John Hanks.

Mr. Hanks was a longtime member of the Everett United Methodist Church, a member of the Everett Lodge #524, F&AM and a member of the American Legion Post #8 in Everett. After graduation from Huntingdon High School, Harry worked with his family at their Huntingdon County dairy farm and was a member of the 28th Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard.

He was called to serve in the United States Army during World War II as a Sergeant with the 106th Quartermasters Corps as a light truck driver in the European Theater, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and the EAME Service Ribbon.

After his service to his country, Harry returned home and worked for 12 years with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, worked as a homebuilder, was employed at the Pennsylvania Sand Plant in Tatesville, and for 25 years worked for the United States Postal Service in Everett until retiring.

An avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lion football games, Pittsburgh Pirate baseball games, Harry also enjoyed vegetable gardening, loved spending time with his pet dogs, and was thoughtful of many different pets and animals, making donations to our local humane societies throughout the years. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he will be greatly missed for that ornery smile that let you know he was up to something.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26th, 2015 at 1 p.m. in the

Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Pastor Debi Decker officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, on Saturday from 11:00 am until the hour of service, and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery. Everett Lodge #524, F&AM will conduct services at the funeral home Friday at 7:30 pm.
