She was born on Nov. 18, 1921, in Macon, Ga., to the Rev. Claude Milton Coalson, a Southern Baptist minister, and his wife, Rena Peck Coalson. She was a graduate of Statesboro High School, Statesboro, Ga., and Shorter (Baptist) College, Rome, Ga.
After graduation, she worked at AT&T, the Federal Housing Authority, and the Atlanta High Museum, all in Atlanta, Ga. In 1943, she married George Fillmore Wells of Atlanta, and in 1948 she and George came to Oak Ridge.
Annelle was an active member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge for many years, serving in various volunteer capacities, including deacon, Sunday school teacher, and director of Women on Mission. She taught special education at Claxton Elementary in Anderson County for 10 years. She belonged to the Tri-County Literacy Society and was actively involved for many years in teaching English as a second language.
Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by her husband, George Fillmore Wells, in 1986.
Her survivors include her four children: Andrea Wells Miller and her husband, J. Keith Miller, of Austin, Texas, Linda Wells Carswell of Columbia, Tenn., Elizabeth Ann Wells of Alpharetta, Ga., and Tom Wells and his wife, Susan Sistrunk Wells, of Melbourne, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Carswell Huggins and her husband, Carl Quinton Huggins, of Atlanta, Ga., Robert Christian Carswell of Atlanta, Ga., Michael Thomas Wells, Jacquelyn Annelle Wells, and Jessica Ann Wells, all of Melbourne, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Spencer Maeghan Huggins, Josiyah Jenesis Huggins, and Sarek Israel Huggins of Atlanta, and Julia Skylar Carswell and Christian McCoy Carswell of Atlanta; sister, Carolyn deLynn Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to say a special thank you to caregivers Susie Barnes, Amanda Williams, and Debbie Stoops, and to Caris Hospice of Knoxville.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Oak Ridge. Interment will be at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be in the form of donations to First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830-6400.
