In October 1945, William Newcomb Calyer took part in the U.S. war trial against Japanese Lieutenant General Tomoyuki Yamashita in Manila, The Philippines:

U.S. to Try Yamashita
At Once for Atrocities

A five-man commission to try Yamashita was appointed by Lieutanant General William D. Styer, commander of Army forces in the western Pacific, at the direction of General MacArthur.
The commission sonsists of Major General Russel B. Reynolds, acting as president, Major General Clarence L. Sturdevant, law member, and Major General James a Lester, Brigadier General William O. Walker and Brigadier General Egbaert F. Bullene.
The prosecution staff consists of two officers from the infantry and four from the Judge Advocate General's Department. An infantry officer, Major Robert M. Kerr, will act as prosecutor.
His assistants are Captains M. D. Webster, William N. Calyer and D. G. Hill, all of the Judge Advocate General's Department; Captain Jack M. Pace, infantry, and Major Glicerio Opinion, of the Judge Advocate General staff of the Philippine Army.
Yamashita will be permitted to provide counsel of his own choice if he desires, although six officers have been assigned to his defense. They are Colon el Harry E. Clark, Lieutenant Colonel Leigh M. Clark, Lieutenant Colonel Walter C. Hendrix, Lieutenant Colonel James G. Eldhaus, Major G. F. Guy and Captain Adold F. Real.
