Charles Asplund, age 78, died in the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Olander, 408 Harrison, late yesterday after a lingering illness. Mr. Asplund before coming to Gary to make his home with his daughter, was a resident of Porter county, being one of the first settlers of that county. Besides Mrs. Olander, he is survivied by two other daughters, Mrs. Anna Nelson of Gary and Mrs. Ammie Larson of Chicago, and one son, August Asplund of Chesterton. Funeral services will be held in the Williams, Marshall and Good chapel at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, followed by burial in Blake's cemetery.
