Thomas Lea Cairns, 82, resident of Winfield since 1879, died Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. in St. Mary's hospital, where he had been a patient for 24 hours.
Son of Alexander and Hannah Cairns, he was born July 17, 1867 in Linn Co., MO. He was married to Effie L. Rice on October 10, 1891. He was a member of the AOUW lodge.
He was employed for a number of years by the J.P. Baden Produce company, later by the Kininmonth Produce company. For some time he was with the Santa Fe, and for four years, until he retired a week ago, was custodian of the First Presbyterian church.
Surviving are his wife; four children, Edmund (Chop) Cairns, Hutchinson, Lloyd R. Cairns, Winfield, Dr. A. Buell Cairns, Dallas and Mrs. Ed Armstrong, Winfield; one sister Miss Elvie Cairns; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Francis Hayward officiating. Burial will be in Union cemetary.
At the time of the death of their daughter Elma, Thomas and Effie were living in Gentry, Arkansas.
