Mr. James Platt, President of the Lake Ontario National Bank, formerly State Senator, and the first Mayor of Oswego, died in that city on Sunday, at the age of eighty-three years. He was a son of Judge Zephaniah Platt, one of the leading men of the State during the Revolution, after whom Plattsburgh is named.
In the death of the Hon. James Platt, the public have met with a great loss. But he has left a record of a long and blameless life. As a man engaged in a large and extensive business, he ever maintained the confidence of the public. His strict integrity, his urbanity of manner, and the mild and gentle influence he silently exerted during his long life, will not soon be forgotten by those who knew and loved him.
