Private Edwin L. Moses served in the 27th S.C. Company D, stationed out of Charleston, SC and known as Sumter Guards under command of General Hagood's Brigade during the Civil War. Private Moses died as a prisoner of war at Camp Chase in Columbus, Franklin Co, Ohio. He died June 15, 1864, at the age of 25. There is a large cemetery where Camp Chase was located and Private Moses' body was re-interred at his home land at Beth Elohim Cemetery in Charleston, SC. Camp Chase was a training camp as well as prison camp in Columbus, Ohio, during the war.
