An early morning wreck in Elmore County on Saturday left three people dead and two injured, according to Alabama State Troopers. According to State Troopers, the wreck happened around 1:30 a.m. on Coosada Parkway when a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe crossed into the opposite lane, left the roadway and hit a tree. After hitting the tree, the vehicle caught on fire. State Troopers say 20-year-old Aeriel Bernstein, 21-year-old Savannah Huggins and 18-year-old Devon Gibbons, all of Millbrook, were not using seat belts at the time of the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Tahoe, identified as 19-year-old Corey Wilson, and an additional passenger were transported to a local hospital with injuries. Troopers say that a preliminary investigation indicates that narcotics and alcohol may have been factors in the crash. "We're still in the early stages of the investigation but preliminary investigation reveals alcohol and narcotics may have been a factor," said Cpl. Jess Thornton with the Alabama State Trooper.
