L G Bud Tatum went home to be with the Lord at the age of 86. Bud was born in Oklahoma City to George and Lottie Tatum. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Christopher; and his beloved wife of 60 years, Doris Garrett Tatum. Bud was in the United States Air Force, after which he had a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. This included work with the Fire Marshal's office in OKC; an agent with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation; a graduate of the FBI National Academy; Chief of Security for the OKC public schools; and as the Chief of Security of The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, where he was chosen as an "Employee of the Year." In 1995, he was recognized as one of the "Red Cross Volunteer Heroes of the Year" for his lifesaving work after the Murrah Building bombing. Bud was very proud of his family. Survivors include his three children, Elizabeth Stewart, Robert Tatum, and Richard Tatum; as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One of his grandsons, Garrett Tatum, wrote a lengthy tribute to him. In it he shared, "I love my grandpa and want to be like him ... hardworking, a family man ? I felt so connected to him. He was so curious about everything that was going on with our lives ? He is still with me, watching over me with his long, comforting arms and inspiring me with his big, profound voice." Another grandson, Daniel Stewart, wrote, "Grandpa was a leader with a servant heart. It was rare to see him seated because he was always helping others." At Bud's insistence, there will be no funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to two of his favorite missionaries, who are also members of our family: Wycliffe Bible Translators, For Roger and Joanne Green, P.O. Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862-8200.
