Father of Della M. Shafer, Mary Ruth Hanson, Richard C. Orr and Janice M. Orr. John Calvin Orr, son of Fred C. Orr and Maggie May Thorp, married Neva M. Stinson in Wichita, KS on May 9, 1930. They started their married life on the farm, but moved to Wichita in the middle 1930's. He worked in aircraft for many years, first at Cessna, and later for the IAM through Beech Aircraft. He and Neva were active through the years in Red Cross, Park Board Recreation activities, and a number of other civic organizations. In 1946 they returned to Sumner County to help out his parents on the farm, but John continued to commute to work for a number of years at Boeing, LearJet, and various other jobs to supplement the family income. They were also active in Conway Springs, KS church and community affairs. John sang in a Barber Shop quartet for which Neva made the costumes. He died in the Spring View Manor nursing home in Conway Springs where he had lived since February of 1998.
