Fred Calvin Orr, son of Gates Orr and Mary Jane Best, came with his parents and several siblings to Sumner Co., KS in 1878 and settled on the farm that would remain in the Orr family for the next 120 years. He married Maggie May Thorp on April 4, 1904 in Conway Springs, KS. Fred remained on the original family farm and raised his family there.
